We are surrounded by so many tech gadgets that run on battery and direct power. So, it is quite common that we have to come across with the use of plug adapters. It is, therefore, become very essential that we should know at least the fundamental concepts of these routinely used plug adapters. This blog revolves around the idea of plug adapter, its uses and the types of plug adapter.



What is a Plug Adapter?

Plug adapters are basically traveling adapters that can act as a transformer, electric converter and simply a charging socket. The basic function of adopters is to supply provide sufficient voltage to the plug. The need for Plug adapter increases while traveling particularly to other countries because there is a lot of difference in volts. Say in the United States the supply of volt is different than that of Asian countries. The usual volt is either 120 or 240. So to adjust the voltage there are primarily 2 types of plug adapter available in the market. One is 240 volt to 120 Volt plug adapter and other is 120 to 240 volts plug adapter.

Salient Uses of Plug Adapter.

A plug adapter is suitable for use indoor as well as outdoor. For the indoor purpose, it can be used to connect foreign plugs for accessories imported from abroad. Similarly, you can make use of it for outdoor purposes to connect multiple plugs in a single adapter. Some Plug adapters can also fulfill the work of converters like 240 Volt to 120 Volt plug adapter or 120 to 240 plug volts adapter.

Types of Plug Adapter –

You would be amazed knowing the range of plug adapters. You never thought of before buying the one but each type has its own functioning and usage. Have a brief look -

Type A    -   They have 2 pins and mostly used in countries like the USA, Japan &
Canada. They are not grounded.

Type B    -   They have 3 pins and mostly used in countries like the USA, Japan &
Canada. They are grounded.

Type C    -   They have 2 pins and mostly used in Europe & South America. They are
not grounded.

Type D    -   They have 3  pins and mostly used in India. These pins are grounded.

The other types are Type E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, and O. All these types are used at different geographical places and have different types of plugs, sockets and usage.
